How We Began:

Daniel Pratt mansionFollowing the destruction of the Daniel Pratt mansion in 1963, a growing feeling of collective guilt encompassed the whole of Autauga County, especially the older citizens of Prattville.  The catch phrase for over a decade was "what a shame."

Finally, in 1976, the nations bi-centennial year, Prattville Study Club, a group of 50 ladies, initiated the establishment of a county historical society.  During its formation phase the organization was named Autauga County Heritage Association.  A constitution was adopted on November 11, 1976, and Evelyn Striplin was elected as the charter president.  There were 309 charter members.
